Do you love sharing your enthusiasm for Mt. Hood with others? Ever considered leading a Bark hike? At this hike leader training, we will provide you with all the tools you need to facilitate a meaningful and fun experience in the forest. You will receive a primer in navigation, emergency preparedness, the art of crafting a conservation-themed hike tailored to a broad audience, and tips for navigating group safety during COVID.
Since the beginning, Bark has offered free, monthly hikes to Mt. Hood National Forest and surrounding public lands. These Bark About hikes are one of our key entry points for people to get more involved in our organization and learn about federal forest defense in our region. They are also one of the main ways we get folks out to experience and connect with the forest that is so important to us all. We believe that by witnessing the breathtaking Cascade ecosystem and learning about the many threats it faces, we can build a stronger community of environmental advocates. Our hike leaders are passionate, knowledgeable volunteers who integrate information about forest ecology and policy with how to get involved in our efforts!
Please note: This in-person outing will follow COVID-19 protocols. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Driving directions will be sent to registrants before the event. Participants will be required to wear face coverings and maintain physical distance from others outside their contact bubble.
This event is part of Bark's free Rad◦i◦cle Training Program, which empowers individuals to learn valuable skills in forest ecology, public lands advocacy, and community organizing.
